A good sourceBy Jamie HagenI found this book to be very helpful while learning some Rachmaninoff songs. Although I wish it contained some more in-depth information. Id like more detail on the differences between the hard and soft sounds. Specific descriptions on the mouth positions for proper execution of each sound that doesnt occur in English would be tremendously helpful. I was confused with the soft vowel descriptions where she says not to include a glide; but the recording clearly does. I also wished she used IPA. I love IPA. I also relied on "The Singers Rachmaninoff" by Natalia Challis and as many recordings of Russian singers that I could get my hands on. With these 3 sources; I think I did a decent job on the Russian. With this book I found I was successfully able to do my own phonetic transcriptions of the Cyrillic (I compared with the transcriptions in "The Singers Rachmaninoff"). So I feel purchasing the book was definitely worth it. I dont know of many other sources on Russian diction. I have not read anything beyond the diction chapters (yet); but I am looking forward to it and excited to learn more Russian music.
