Focus on three artists who should be better appreciated in the USBy CustomerNot bad for a book in English but; if you read Portuguese; much of the text has already been written by previous scholars.A bit of a superficial outlook on three interesting Brazilian artists that deserve better attention. In particular; make sure to check out the artwork of Antonio Manuel; especially his recent work barely touched on in this text.0 of 1 people found the following review helpful. Superior academic writingBy Danielle HurdCalirmans text is one of the most engaging; easy to read; and fascinating scholarly texts I have ever read. Her work is well-researched; but her expertise rarely impedes the formulation of a coherent narrative. Her forays into theory are brief; which may bother some; but I found them to be refreshingly concise. Since this is one of the first major studies of Brazilian art in the 60s and 70s the narrative is (appropriately) given primary importance. A few passages border on redundant and there are a few gaps in the story; but Calirman left me wanting to know more about the topic and to become a better writer. She has mastered the art of being thorough without being pompous or obtuse. I would even recommend this to people outside of the field. A major step forward for all those interested Brazilian art and a wonderful read.
