I have used this book and still do; but after using it two years I can say positively that is simply doesnt work if you have as one of your goals note reading. It is very flawed pedagogy when it comes to reading the notes and you wont really learn to play using this book. The problem is that the notes on each string are introduced separately and then mixed together all at once. The notes on the first string work fine for the class. Then the notes on the second string go fine; but then the two strings are mixed together which is when everything falls apart. The problem is when you go to the new string the examples should continue using the notes on the string before and gradually mix in the new ones. Instead; the notes on the previous string are ignored and the complete focus is on the new string. When the previous string and its several notes are brought back it is too much at once for the students. I am writing this hoping that a publisher will hear this. Most of the books do this and I havent found a uke book that does this correctly. Some guitar books do; but most dont. The chord part of the book is okay; but the musical examples are far too brief. Luckily I only spend part of the year on the uke and go on to something else before too much frustration sets in. This method just simply doesnt work.0 of 0 people found the following review helpful.
