These are well written with sometimes challenging accompaniments since Hayes is a fine pianist himself! These solos are useful for performance or as literature for teaching6 of 6 people found the following review helpful. Great Arrangements!By M. HarrisMark Hayes has created some wonderful arrangements for these spirituals. Very tasteful -- not cheesy like some arrangements can be. The piano parts are often rich and jazzy. As a bass with a good baritone high end; I have no trouble singing in the range that these have been set. Make sure to get the book with CD. The CD has just the piano accompaniment -- perfect.I bought this book along with Mark Hayes "7 Songs and Spiritual Songs". The other book is good; but with more of a show tune sound. I prefer this book.0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. Perfect for meBy Mark MadisonI highly recommend these Mark Hayes arrangements for spirituals. I have the medium low voice but they come in a high voice version as well. Hayes arrangements are modern while staying true to the originals producing a simple but beautiful interpretation of these favorites. Theres something for every singer here.
