Description

Introduction to Japanese Architecture provides an overview of Japanese architecture in its historical and cultural context. It begins with a discussion of prehistoric dwellings and concludes with a description of contemporary trends in areas as diverse as country inns; underground malls; and love hotels. The intervening 12;000 years are analyzed in reference to major changes in architecture caused by Buddhist and indigenous influences; feudalism; and finally the influence of Western culture in the 19th century. The architecture book provides insights into the dynamic nature of this contrast and how it reflects the underlying diversity of Japanese culture. The comprehensive; accessible text is complemented by over 340 color photographs; diagrams; and specially commissioned watercolors.

"What the Butler Saw" is a satirical farce that takes aim at the madness of sanity and the insanity of reason. When a psychiatrist attempts to seduce a job applicant and is interrupted by the unexpected return of his wife and a spot inspection by his boss; he must scramble to conceal his doings. As his antics get more and more desperate; he must also find a way to avoid being committed to his own mental asylum as a patient. Fast paced and funny; Orton never misses an opportunity to ridicule social norms and conventional thinking. While Im not quite sure about the title; I am quite sure it was delightful reading from lights up to lights down.1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. One of the funniest plays in the English languageBy Eleanor S. HansenI got this a preparation for seeing this play at the Jewel Theatre in Santa Cruz CA; and it did help because the jokes are rapid fire and deadly. I plan to read it again because it is so funny.0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. Play came in great condition.By Teresa CAll sorts of mix ups in this novel; quite a wild ride to read.
