Wang Wei the Painter-Poet

audiobook Wang Wei the Painter-Poet by Lewis Calvin; Dorothy Brush Walmsley in Arts-Photography

Description

This star-studded tribute to the kings and queens of comedy draws together such legendary names as Steve Martin; Tina Fey; Steve Carell; Eddie Murphy; Robin Williams; Ricky Gervais; and many more. Granted extraordinary access; photographer Matt Hoyle has captured his subjects in portraits that are works of art in themselvesmdash;by turns zany and deadpan; laugh-out-loud and contemplative. Accompanying them are first-person reflections from each of the comedians on life and laughter that always cut straight to the heart of comedy: its funny because its true. Page after sidesplitting page in Comic Genius offers prose as engaging as each portrait is memorable. Here; in one handsome package; is the gift of laughter itself. Comic Genius is proud to support Save The Children.

KosiurI dont know what the original printed version of this book may have looked like; but the Kindle version leaves much to be desired. I know that you cannot map page numbers in Kindle versions; so the original in-text references to images should be ignored. But what really annoyed me was the placement of the image captions with the images. In some cases; the caption was as much as four pages removed from the corresponding image! And that didnt change with font size; etc. At least one figure caption was missing. It takes some prior knowledge of the images to be sure which caption related to which image. Also; the curator/author went too far in adding other artists under the umbrella of "cubism". Some of the works may have been influence by artists that did produce cubist work; but theres work included in this publication that doesnt fit accepted definitions of cubism.5 of 5 people found the following review helpful. Great examples of early cubist artBy Bob GregoryThe photos and examples of art work are excellent. Many examples and high quality resolution of early cubist art. The book is worth getting simply based on the art.The written part of the book is a little too wordy and contains alot of "Artsy" speak; as if the authors were trying to impress their colleuges with how descriptive they could be.
