There is a sense of timelessness in the Chinese theater: ever since its maturation; its format has not changed in any significant way. Chinese Theater matured into its final format in the 13th century and flourished during the Yuan; Ming; and Qing Dynasties. It is a unique; exclusive; and self-sufficient system; whose evolution has received little influence from the West and whose influence on Western theaters has been minimal and often misinterpreted. It is essentially a performers theater; the actors attract the audience with splendid performances perfected through many years of rigorous training. The Historical Dictionary of Chinese Theater is the first English language dictionary dedicated entirely to Chinese theater. The history of Chinese theater is told through a chronology; an introductory essay; and over 1;000 cross-referenced dictionary entries on performers; directors; producers; designers; actors; theaters; dynasties; and emperors. There are also entries on the many different theatrical traditions; the acting and staging techniques; and specifics on roles and costumes as well as a brief synopsis of major plays. This book is essential for anyone interested in Chinese Theater.

Be warned; however; that if you have the original Kindle fire or computer that is not ios;you will not be able to access the audio. I didnt notice the disclaimer until I had already purchased the book and went back to make sure I had read correctly that it was included.0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. It would be nice to see it in a spiral bound format.0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. this is an awesome book. There is even a chapter at the ...By JulakinsBeing an Earl Scruggs fan anyway; this is an awesome book. There is even a chapter at the end on how to make your own banjo. H also goes over each part of the banjo so you know what they are and what they do (and sometimes what can go wrong and what to do about it.) There is a chapter on how to tune the banjo; with a diagram of corresponding piano keys (I am a fan of visuals with the text.) He shows you his technique and how to play his way and practice. And he does this in steps so you can practice until you get it right and then move on to more advanced stuff. Theres a chapter on right-hand and left-hand techniques; and lots of music to practice with. There is also a CD. A must have purchase for any banjo fan.
