Focusing on the art and literary form of manga; this volume examines the intercultural exchanges that have shaped manga during the twentieth century and how mangarsquo;s culturalization is related to its globalization. Through contributions from leading scholars in the fields of comics and Japanese culture; it describes "manga culture" in two ways: as a fundamentally hybrid culture comprised of both subcultures and transcultures; and as an aesthetic culture which has eluded modernist notions of art; originality; and authorship. The latter is demonstrated in a special focus on the best-selling manga franchise; NARUTO.

Its packed with very well done watercolor sketches of plants; fruits and vegetables. There are color swatches and lots of margin notes from the artist; Mary Ann Scott. Ive already gotten a lot of great art ideas from this book and Im sure it will continue to serve me very well for many years to come.3 of 3 people found the following review helpful. Look over the shoulder at a studen the master teachers progress through learning Botanical IllustrationBy Cheryl StevensonWhile not the "how-to" I expected; for someone interested in Botannical watercolor or drawing; this books opens up in detail the kind of learning required as you follow both student and master through her work as she progresses through the two year course and critiques of her kind-hearted; yet eagle-eyed master teachings. I will go back to this again and again.1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. My favorite and oft-referred to botanical illustration book.By Gentle Souls Animal HealingThis was my first botanical illustration book purchase and I must say I was not disappointed! Ive read and purchased several more (carefully chosen) since then and yet this one remains my very favorite and oft-referred to. I simply love it! Its very helpful to me to see not only the tutors comments on her sketchbook; SBA assignments; and SBA diploma pieces; but also to see how she worked these things out; what colors she used; and so on; is super-helpful and inspiring. A great resource!
