Description

Stage Money is a groundbreaking guide to understanding professional theater finances today through the use of the tools and metaphors of the business world at large. This approach results in a comprehensive picture of the economic realities of theater production that is radically different from the assessments typically espoused elsewhere. Tim Donahue and Jim Patterson combine their experiences in the financial and creative aspects of theater production to present in straightforward prose their keen insights into the micro- and macro-economic aspects of the commercial stage. Tangible data; charts; and graphs are counterbalanced with illuminating "intermissions" between chapters and interspersed sidebars throughout to provide specific examples of key concepts; collectively presenting an expansive overview of the contemporary theater business. Stage Money is an unparalleled tool for theater professionals and enthusiasts interested in garnering a better understanding of the businesss inner workings at present and its challenges for the future.Among the topics addressed in Stage Money are the risks and returns on Broadway in the early twenty-first century; the financial organization of theater performances today; and comparisons between the business models of commercial theater and not-for-profit theater. In concise language and clear examples; the authors explain where the money comes from and where it goes.

My mind simply cannot get around the fact that Charles continues to create the loveliest rooms in America (and a few abroad) and makes it seem effortless. He willingly admits that his last book "Details" was to be his last; but all the beautiful rooms he has created since that book was published deserved to be seen. Amen to that!I really enjoyed the variety of houses and locales represented...many in the Smoky Mountains of North Carolina as well as those in Oklahoma and the Southwest. The casual approach to the vacation homes is juxtaposed with the formal city houses; but both are spot on in decoration; appointments and French style. Each section is introduced by a friend; fellow designer or client; many of whom are well-known names in the design industry. And once again; the descriptive captions are entertaining and informative.Pets still figure prominently in the photos of the rooms; even the cover of the book features a photo of Charles beloved Cavalier King Charles Spaniel Nicholas; who passed away late last year. Including the canine family members in the photos has become a Faudree trademark; and I enjoy the homey touch they add to each fabulous view.Simply the best decorating book Ive seen since "Details." You will not be disappointed.9 of 9 people found the following review helpful. Too Much Faudree? Au Contraire!By FussypersonIve collected every magazine article on Charles Faudree over 20 years from Traditional Homes and Southern Accents; plus each book that hes written. Based on some previous reviewers; I wasnt sure this book would be different from the others and it might repeat content. To my delight that is not so. The format is very large so it allows you to really see the accessories and patterns on the fabrics. Each section is prefaced by another designer. You could easily overdose on this book - it is chock full; no; its entirely full of photos. I became absorbed and enveloped in Charles Faudrees decorating style.Page after page of rooms; vignettes; tablescapes; wall arrangements; upholstery and furniture arrangements. Quite a reference book.Beautifully done. Beautiful printing. You can practically bite into this book.2 of 2 people found the following review helpful. Lovely; But ImpracticalBy Sandra S.This is a very beautiful book. Well written with many beautiful pictures. However; for me; it was not practical. There is no way I am able to afford the furniture displayed; or the lovely accents. I am decorating my home in Farmhouse/Cottage with a touch of French; and most of the items pictured are beyond my means. The homes displayed were homes of very wealthy people; and very unrealistic for the majority of us. I really didnt get any ideas or help from the book; because everything was so extravagant. Unless you have an unlimited income; this book is not for the average American citizen.
