Description

Son tres. Azul; amarillo; rojo.

DavidsonI have just finished reading "Hitchcock Lost and Found" by Alain Kerzoncuf and Charles Barr and Im happy to report that it is a wonderful book. The authors do a great job of exploring Hitchcocks work on films that were either lost; missing for years; or where his contribution was minimized or unacknowledged. I cant imagine the difficulty of finding out the information that they have about films from the early 1920s or 1930s; films that have been lost or missing for years! And they have done great work adding to the Hitchcock scholarship relating to his work on various films during the war years; most notably "Bon Voyage" and "Aventure Malgache"; but also his work on the concentration camp documentary that was long suppressed. "Hitchcock Lost and Found" is particularly timely since there has been a recent HBO special about this film and Hitchcocks contributions. In an era when it seems as if every possible aspects of Hitchcocks life and career have been studied; it is great to find a book that can shed light on areas that have previously been ignored or overlooked. In addition; as more and more films come to light that had previously been considered lost (such as the discovery of the print of 1923s "The White Shadow" in 2011) this book will take on considerably more import. Kerzoncuf and Barr are certainly to be congratulated on their groundbreaking work; which will definitely be viewed as an important contribution to Hitchcock scholarship.2 of 2 people found the following review helpful. No you have not seen every Hitchcock movieBy Bruce CalvertYou would think that Alfred Hitchcock probably has more books about him than any other director. What else could anybody say about his career? Actually; there are quite a lot of smaller projects that are missing from the usual surveys of career. Hitchcock scholars Alain Kerzoncuf and Charles Barr have found over a dozen fascinating but little-known Hitchcock projects.Although Hitchcocks career started in England; he was actually working for the British subsidiary of Famous Players-Lasky (AKA Paramount). He began as a title-writer and illustrator; and was able to work with prominent American directors like Donald Crisp; George Fitzmaurice and John S. Robertson. After Famous Players abandoned their studio; he continued to work on British productions as a production assistant; production manager; writer; art director and finally as a director. In the sound era; there are oddities such as AN ELASTIC AFFAIR (1930); which was basically a screen test for two talent contest winners. Hitchcock definitely judged the contest; and its possible that he directed this short film. MURDER! (1930) was Hitchcocks second sound feature; but as was industry practice during the early sound period; he directed a German-language version of the same film called MARY (1930). It was filmed on the same sets at the same time; but with a German-speaking cast.During World War II; Hitchcock re-edited two British documentaries to make them more attractive for American audiences. Surprisingly; he directed two French-language shorts in support of the war effort. One of them; ADVENTURE MALGACHE (1944) got tied up in politics; and was never actually released. He also directed a "Buy Bonds" short entitled THE FIGHTING GENERATION (1944) starring Jennifer Jones. Hitchcock was also involved with assembling a documentary on Nazi concentration camps called MEMORY OF THE CAMPS.In 1959; Hitchcock played himself directing two actors; including a young William Shatner; in public-service television show about dealing with cancer. This book is perfect for the die-hard film fan. No matter how many times you have seen the usual Hitchcock classic films; everyone will learn more about several obscure projects that were not the type of films that we normally associate with the master. Authors Kerzoncuf and Barr have done some excellent research to uncover these little-known films.
