PDF Winckelmann's Images from the Ancient World: Greek; Roman; Etruscan and Egyptian (Dover Fine Art; History of Art) by Johann Joachim Winckelmann in Arts-Photography

Description

Compiled by the father of modern art history; this landmark 1767 publication boasts more than 200 outstanding engravings of ancient monuments. Johann Joachim Winckelmann; an eighteenth-century scholar who devoted his life to the study of ancient art; was the first to outline the distinctions between works of Egyptian; Etruscan; Roman; and Greek origin. Drawing upon his encyclopedic knowledge of ancient literature; Winckelmann explained the origins and significance of each of these previously unknown and unpublished images from historic buildings and monuments. These finely engraved illustrations of figures from ancient religion and mythology offer a compelling study; particularly in the light of the details imparted by the German scholarrsquo;s commentary. In addition to reproductions of all the images from the original volume; this edition includes newly translated text and captions and an Introduction that relates fascinating details concerning the authors life. This is the first English-language version of Winckelmanns classic; presenting not only a panorama of captivating sights from classical civilizations but also a major contribution to the literature of art history.

Perfect for intermediate levelBy jaymayI bought this book after a 5-year gap in playing and was pleased to discover the difficulty level was perfect for my stage. Its not very hard; and the range only really goes up to a high G. The song selection is fun. I really enjoy playing this book. The only misconception I had about this product is that I thought it came with an accompiament CD. It actually doesnt. It comes with a code that you type into a website to hear the audio. I was also a little disappointed to find out that the demonstration tracks do not use a trumpet for the solo. Uses bell/chime/vibes to do the solo. Was difficult to differntiate from the orchestra at times.0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. good buyBy DWGreviewerso fun and easy for a beginner. the more experienced will find ways to "spice" up the music. Nonetheless; it has the Disney movie sound and it is not some "cheesy" recording. my little children love it when i play along to the music and they sing0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. Challenging MusicBy Mom of FourThis is a nice combination of songs; but fairly challenging. I purchased one for each of my children; but they cannot do much with this music until they have a few years of playing under their belt. This is not for beginners.
