I am taking my time trying to do everything correctly. I am not a Photoshop novice so I can keep up with this book (so far). Here are my initial thoughts of this book. When Im done Ill try to remember to post an Update.-While this book contains some good tips; I dont think it is detailed enough in how to accomplish certain specific tasks. Sometimes she details each step; but there are also times when I am totally lost on how she wants something to be done. I have figured out my own way to accomplish what she wants; but I wish she would outline exactly how she does things so I (the reader) could learn a potential new way of doing something. There are times when she rushes through the steps.-The photo representations of the exercises in this book are terrible. The photos are so small that details can hardly be seen. Photos of details in color changes or sharpness; for example; are absolutely useless. Check out the book "Professional Photoshop - The Classic Guide to Color Correction" if you want to see the difference. The pictures are large and you can see the difference between comparison photos. This isnt the worst book out there on retouching; but Im sure there are better ones out there. I do appreciate that she takes us through a real retouching jobs workflow; but its the lack of details she leaves out that is disappointing. Maybe Ms. Beene assumes that the general reader should know how to to do certain things (like make the corner of an eye white); which I do; but I bought this book because I want to know how SHE does it. This book could have been great if she would have spent more time; and been more thorough; with it.I dont think I would recommend this to anyone else.1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. Very detailed; great results. Not for the unexperienced.By Eng Rui Pedro CruzThis is a great book; Ive learned a lot about the process by which the images are enhanced. Dont expect to learn a lot about Ps. Of course; you will learn something; for sure; but thats not what the book is about. In fact; the author assumes that you are already proficient with Ps; as some commands are not explained in detail; or even not at all.As far as Im concerned; this is a great book with a serious insight on how the professional retouchers do it. Be warned that you may not be able to replicate everything; even though its explained in detail how it was done.If youd like to start to know retouching; or you just need to have some retouching skills on your belt; without going all out; you should try the Scott Kelby books and then; once youve mastered that; go into this one.Great stuff.0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. Valuable addition to photography library.By FaithThe best part about this book is the fact that you work on one image and go completely through the process. Ive learned lots of stuff by just skimming the book because I havent had time to actually sit down and follow along step-by-step. I bought several retouching books lately; this aond one other by Kelby are the only ones I have kept.I would like to have seen a step-by-step process for a man too but perhaps thats content for a 2nd book.
