Description

CunninghamThe book is about traveling; so I supposed it`s fitting that it works very well as a travel read. I read the bulk of it on a 13 hour flight to Japan; and it set the stage well for my travels.Sutcliffe does a very good job of expressing the feeling I often have when I`m done with a trip: that I`m glad I did it; but I don`t know if I would want to go through the whole experience again. That said; much of the book seemed like it was missing something. The story is told from a first person perspective; which generally gives the reader a wonderful insight into the narrator. However; in this case; I never felt like I truely understood the narrator. Close at times; but never quite fully there.0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. This one is probably my all time favorite. The notes and artwork at the beginning and the tabs themselves are all fantastic. The tab is also very detailed showing every nuance to how it was played in the studio.0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. Very funny (if you have been there)By LisaI loved this book. I first read it in India because my travel partner was laughing so hard while reading it. Dont expect high-brow literature here; but if you have ever been to that part of the world; Daves experiences and Sutcliffes descriptions of them are dead-on. It will take you back! The book truely captures the low-budget backpackers experience in India; mainly by pointing out how absurd situations and people can be. Sutcliffes writing is astute and very funny; and Dave is likeable because his observations are honest and wry; exposing many pretentious and superficial stereotypes for what they are. I highly recommend this book; particularly if you have traveled in south-east asia (if not; you may not find it as funny). Its been circulating among the travelers used books stores over there for years (for good reason).
