Review

He creates rich characters and has some powerful ideas with contemporary humour. He says that he believes in narrative and his plays do contain a certain amount of story. However occasionally it is hard to see the characters and the story through the rather excessive 90s use of crude sex acts and language.Perhaps the pendulum needs to swing back again and writers need to find restrained techniques for increasing the power of their work. Edward Bonds play Saved has lost none of its effect over the years and yet it contains no graphic sex acts and no real bad language.Nonetheless for anyone interested in contemporary theatre these plays are a must read.
